Highly porous double-shelled calcium ferrite hollow spheres are synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal reaction of a solution containing calcium, iron ions, and sucrose leading to CaFe-glycolate/carbon composite, and followed by decomposition of core carbon through calcination process. CaFe2O4 hollow microspheres are composed of nanoparticle-stacked mesoporous shell with active-inactive phase and macroporous void as hollow core, which enables electrodes to offer outstanding rate capability and excellent capacity retention by alleviating volume expansion. CaFe2O4 hollow microspheres plays important roles in facilitating mass transfer and charge transfer, and sustaining structural integrity, which leads to the superior electrochemical performance. |
