제목 | Synthesis of high surface area activated carbon derived from rice husk using microwave heating |
초록 | The production of functional activated carbon materials starting from cheap natural precursors using environmentally friendly and economically effective processes is a highly attractive subject in material science and technology. In reality, the use of plant biomass to produce functional carbonaceous materials has attracted a great deal of attention in various aspects. Preparation of activated carbon has been attempted from rice husk (RH) via microwave assisted chemical activation. Firstly, the rice husk was washed thoroughly with water using the Ultrasonic cleaner machine for several minutes, and then was milled via Attrition mill machine at 600 rounds/min for 1 hour assisted aluminum ball (Ø 2mm). The milled husk was passed through sieves at 425 μm diameter, and then carried out carbonization under purified N2 flow (300 ml/min) at 700-900 oC. The operational parameters including the effects of activation agents, chemical impregnation ratio (1:1, 1:2, 1:4) with KOH solution, microwave power (90–800 W) within irradiation time (3-5 min) and the second activation process on the carbon yield and adsorption capability were investigated. Experimental results showed the BET surface area of activated carbons irrespective of the activation agent resulted in surface area. The activation time using microwave heating and chemical impregnation ratio with KOH solution were chosen to determine the best optimal method for the high surface area activated carbon. |
