제목 Performance of Microbial Fuel Cell Fed with Formate
초록 Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have been used to enrich microbes oxidizing formate with the concomitant of electricity generation. The synthetic medium containing formate (20 mM) was fed to MFCs. The MFCs showed the stable current of approximately 1 mA after 4 months of operation. Over 90% of formate was oxidized but only 5.3 % of oxidized substances were converted to electricity. The result from HPLC analyses with anode effluent indicated that formate was not only used as the electron donor to generate electricity but also involved in the synthesizing of acetate which was detected on the effluent. Several experimental conditions were considered as affecting factors to the performance of formate fed MFCs such as oxygen diffusion, cation transferring through membrane.
