Au-functionalized zinc-oxide (ZnO)-branched tin oxide (SnO2) nanowires were fabricated and its application to chemical sensors has been ezamined. In order to enhance the gas sensing properties, it is essential to increase the surface-to-volume ratio. One important approach to increase the ratio will be to use the one-dimensional (1D) nanowires as a gas sensor. This will facilitate the transport, adhesion, and reaction of the gas molecules. Since Au nanoparticles can be employed as a catalytic agent, we deposited Au nanoparticles to the branched nanowires. We explained the possible mechanisms for improvement of the sensing properties by the functionalization. |
