Fabrication and Properties of Epoxy/Layered Silicate Nanocomposites |

Epoxy/layered silicate nanocomposites were synthersized by in-situ polymerization method. To prepare enhanced Epoxy/ layered nanocomposite, the pristine clay was newly modified for increasing compatibility with epoxy. The pristine clay was modified by organic modification by cationic exchange method, the organic modification of the pristine MMT was based on N-methyl diethanol amine(MDEA). Using the ultrasonic sonication and the autoclave curing precess, Epoxy/layered silicate nanocomposites were prepared with organoclays. The d-spacing values were investigated XRD technique. SEM and TEM were also employed to investigated the cluster distribution inside the composite. The critical stress intensity factor(KIC) was increased with increasing layered silicate content, the KIC of 2wt% J230 inserted specimen(E J230_2) was 1.49 times higher than that of neat epoxy specimen. We thought that the silicate layers could directly affect on the fracture toughness of the nanocomposites. |
