A bio-dye of indigo could be synthesized from L-tryptophan by expressing CYP102G4 monooxygenase enzyme, which catalyzes C3-specific hydroxylation of indole. Several enzymatic modification of indigo could produce novel high-performance indigo derivative dyes. Here, we report the bio-synthesis of indigoids using CYP102G4 through whole cell biotransformation on indole derivatives in E. coli. The CYP102G4 successfully catalyzed indole derivatives for C3-specific hydroxylation, which resulted in the formation of indigoids. The synthesized indigoids showed very interesting colors. The color difference was measured, and its antibacterial activity was determined. |
