Effect of Sulfur Doping on Activated Carbon Electrodes Derived from Waste Coffee Grounds for Electric Double-Layer Capacitor |

Electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) are electrochemical energy storage devices that have fast charge/discharge capability, cycle stability, and high power density, making them applicable to a variety of applications. Activated carbon is usually used as EDLC electrodes because of its high surface area and well-defined pore structure. Sulfur-doped activated carbon induces electric conductivity and the specific capacitance of activated carbon owing to lone-pair electrons of sulfur and influence on pore size and structure . In this study, activated carbons were fabricated from waste coffee grounds (WCGACs) through carbonization and chemical activation of KOH. Sulfur-doped WCGACs were also prepared by heat treatment of WCGACs with elemental sulfur powders. We applied these materials to electrodes of EDLCs and investigated the effect of sulfur on the electrochemical properties of the EDLCs. |
