제목 Impact of ZnCo2O4 photocatalyst on BiVO4 for enhanced photoelectrochemical water splitting
초록 Within the recent years photoelectrochemical water splitting is admired as a green and friendly route to convert solar to chemical energy. In this perspective metal oxide semiconductors usually preferred as photocatalytic layer due to their stability and ability to improve the overall production of oxygen. Herein we report the deposition of ZnCo2O4 as a photocatalyst layer over BiVO4 to form BiVO4@ZnCo2O4 as a novel composite photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting. The morphologies, structures and optical analysis were done through field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and UV-Vis studies. Remarkable 2.9-fold enhancement in photocurrent enhancement is witnessed on BiVO4@ZnCo2O4 (i.e. 2.62 mA/cm2 at 1V vs SCE) composite compared with bare BiVO4 (i.e. 0.89 mA/cm2 at 1V vs SCE) under visible illumination. The optimum coating of ZnCo2O4 over BiVO4 effectively increase the optical thickness of bare BiVO4 results in efficient absorption of the incident solar spectrum. Furthermore, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analyses demonstrate faster charge separation with reduced charge recombination. As a whole, this exceptional PEC performance of ZnCo2O4@ BiVO4 potentially provides new insights into PEC water splitting systems in future.
