Electronic skin (e-skin) is an electronic device that mimics human skin and the primary function of e-skin is a pressure sensor. In this study, ionic liquid was used as an active layer of pressure sensor due to the several key merits of ionic liquid such as extremely high capacitance, flexibility and transparency. Also, ITO electrodes were replaced by graphene electrodes with transparency and flexibility. Ionic liquid patterns were fabricated by wetting/dewetting phenomenon. The fabricated pressure sensor operated at two different modes because of the unique electrode/active layer design. At low pressure, the sensor operates with change of air capacitance. At high pressure, on the other hand, it operates with change of ionic liquid capacitance which was driven by electronic double layer (EDL) between electrode and ionic liquid. The pressure sensor developed in this study can be used to detect various range of pressure and thus can be utilized in highly sensitive e-skin. |
