Nitrogen-doped magnetic carbon nanoparticles(N-MCNPs) were readily fabricated using the carbonization of iron-impregnated nanosized polypyrrole nanoparticles as a precursor. These N-MCNPs exhibited an improved complexation affinity for heavy metal ions such as chrome, zinc, nickel ions due to the amine group of polypyrrole. Especially, the prepared uniform-nanosized N-MCNPs with high surface area have an enhanced heavy metal ion uptake, which is 10 times higher than that of adsorbent with nitrogen-functionalized activated carbon. In addition, their magnetic property originated from iron ions makes it possible to efficiently separate and reuse the adsorbent of heavy metal ions under an external magnetic field. |
