제목 Effect of Ionic group’s Position in UV-PUDs
초록 The combination of polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) and radiation curable technology has led to the development of waterborne UV-curable polyurethane dispersions (UV-PUDs). UV-PUDs are expected to overcome both disadvantages of PUDs and radiation curable systems. However, they still remain some disadvantages such as long time at drying process and loss of thickness.
In this study, we controlled the position of ionic groups to increase the solid contents. As ionic groups are located at the chain end instead of the center, they may migrate toward the water phase more easily at phase inversion because the chain ends have lower surface free energy than the main chain segments. It is expected to attain the high solid content due to the stability of the dispersions.
We synthesized hard segment from H12MDI and 1,4-BD. Then, forming the soft segment with HDI, PTMG650, and DMBA, we located the ionic groups on the end of polyurethane acrylate oligomer to carry out the high solid content. It can reduce the drying time and the thickness loss of cast films as a result of increasing the solid contents.
We evaluated the effects in terms of particle size and the viscosity of the dispersion, contact angle, thermal, mechanical, and dynamic mechanical properties of the dispersion cast films.
