Engineering the Photocatalytic Activity of Carbon Dots via Control over Atomic Structures |

We prepared Mo and S doped Hollow Carbon Dots (MoSHCDs) by solvothermal treatment of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone in the presence of molecular oxygen, and the reaction was catalyzed by 2H-MoS2 nanosheets. The prepared MoSHCDs showed unique structure, 22.1 nm hollow shell-like quasi-spherical, with 7 nm interior. The photocatalyst showed intense absorption and very strong photoluminescence in visible region of electromagnetic spectrum with 2.7 eV band gap. Then, the photocatalytic activity of the MoSHCDs was studied for oxidative coupling reaction of amines. The photocatalyst showed very high catalytic activity in the reaction of primary amine, secondary amines, and heterocyclic amines under visible light irradiation at room temperature. This synthetic approach can provide an opportunity in the progress in synthesis of carbon-based materials for photocatalysis in mild condition with large scale. |
