This study investigated the combustion properties of cypress specimen for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on smoke performance index, smoke growth index, and smoke intensity which are new method for smoke hazard assessment in fire scenarios. Smoke hazard properties were measured by using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Metal oxide was used Al2 O3, Co3O4 and SnO. Metal oxide to silicone sol compounds were blended with 20 wt% vs. 80 wt%. The smoke performance index (SPI) of the specimens were increased by 514% to 7644%, compared with uncoated specimen. The smoke risk due to smoke performance index increased in the order of SnO<Co3O4< Al2O3< cypress. The smoke growth index decreased from 89% to 98%, compared with uncoated wood. A comprehensive assessment of smoke hazard properties shows that metal oxide/silicone sol compounds reduced smoke hazards. |
