Chemical vapor deposition method using CH4 gaseous hydrocarbons is generally used to synthesize large-area graphene. The studies using non-gaseous materials such as ethanol, hexane and camphor have been occasionally conducted. In this study, the large-area graphene was synthesized via chemical vapor deposition using polyethylene as a carbon precursor. In particular, we used a poly glove, which is one of low-density polyethylene. The characteristics of the synthesized graphene as functions of the growth time of graphene and the temperature for vaporizing polyethylene were evaluated by optical microscope and Raman spectroscopy. When the polyethylene vaporizing temperature was over 150 °C, large-area graphene with excellent quality was synthesized. The Raman spectroscopy showed that the D peak intensity increased and the 2D peak intensity decreased with increasing the growth time. The reason is why sp3 bond in the graphene can be formed, when an amount of the carbon sources were supplied. The quality of the synthesized graphene using polyethylene was similar to the graphene synthesized using methane gas. |
