This lecture will discuss the current status of precision radical polymerization, particularly transition metal-catalyzed processes that we have been developing over a decade. Emphasis will be focused on development of new catalysts and functional polymer materials of well-defined architecture. More specific topics to be covered include: (A) Highly active and versatile metal complex catalysts, functionality tolerant and readily recoverable; (B) Precision polymerization of functionalized monomers in alcoholic and aqueous media, fast and versatile; (C) Precision synthesis of new functional polymer materials; (D) Designed star polymers with metal catalyst-bearing, stimuli-responsive, and/or molecular recognition cores for catalysis. |
