We fabricated one-dimensional self-supporting pH-universal hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst with ultra-low loading of ruthenium nanoclusters for efficient hydrogen production in acidic and alkaline media. The tellurium nanowires were firstly prepared as a sacrificial templates, followed by a coating process by metal-organic framework (MOF) with zinc and cobalt. After this process, the complex was annealed under argon flow at 950°C to evaporate tellurium and zinc and the MOF-coated tellurium nanowires were converted metal-nitrogen-carbon complex with atomic Co sites. After the annealing process, it was immersed in the ruthenium solution and ruthenium nanoclusters could be infiltrated into the nanopores. The electrodes were directly applied to the water electrolyzers in both acidic and alkaline media, indicating its pH-universal activity toward HER. |
