제목 TGIC Separation of Polymers Containing Vinylpyridine
초록 Temperature gradient interaction chromatography (TGIC) was applied for the separation of poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) according to the molecular weight. The five P2VP samples with different molecular weight (9.1 - 404 kg/mol) prepared by anionic polymerization were used. A diol bonded silica and mixture of methanol/THF were used as stationary and mobile phase, respectively. TGIC was able to separate the five P2VP samples to the base line within 40 min as shown in bottom Figure.
And also we extended TGIC technique to separate PS-b-P2VP diblock and PS-b-P2VP-PS triblock copolymers, in which two block copolymers have same chemical composition and different molecular weight. In the case of block copolymers, the separation condition is similar with that of P2VP sample except for the column (bare silica) and the mobile phase composition. Two block copolymers were well separated, even though their chemical composition is the same. It seems preferable to carry out separation such as that described in this work, in particular for polymer system with same composition and different molecular weight, if sample of structural purity is required.
