5-norbornene-2-carboxylic acid (NCA), as both a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) dispersant and an adhesion promoter, is confirmed to copolymerize with dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) to yield a thermoset copolymer. In this study, cure kinetics of the DCPD/NCA comonomer incorporated with different loadings of norbornene-functionalied MWNT under the 2nd generation Grubbs' catalyst were characterized by dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Activation energy as a function of the fraction conversion was obtained according to a model-free isoconversional method, which determines the effect of MWNT on the reaction mechanism of the system. Furthermore, viscoelastic behavior and thermal stability of the composites were also investigated using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. |
