Generation of Honeycomb Plasma in a Corona Discharge-Coupled Catalytic Reactor for Removal of Ethylene |

Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) has been successfully done with plasma-catalytic reactors such as packed-bed dielectric barrier discharge reactor. Due to the high-pressure drop and low treating volume of gas in these reactors, the practical application involves large operation and maintenance costs. A commercial honeycomb monolith reactor can treat large volumes of gas along with homogeneous discharge through the honeycomb cells. The commercial honeycomb is at least 50mm of height and it has been one of the hurdles to generating homogeneous plasma for commercialization purposes. For ethylene treatment, relative humidity has a huge effect on the generation of plasma as well as the adsorption of ethylene over catalysts. Our work focuses on the generation of atmospheric pressure plasma in the commercial monolith in a relatively high humid environment and to utilize it for the effective removal of ethylene. |
