Grafting of Linear and Hyperbranched Polyphenylene Sulfide onto the surface of Functionalized Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes |

Even though functionalized MWNTs are almost no or minimum damaged, introducing organics onto the sidewall of MWNT could still reduce electric and thermal conductivities on its surface. Thus, to minimize the surface damages of MWNTs and to maintain the conductivities of resultant nanocomposites, we would like to introduce organics containing reactive functional groups via electrophilic substitution reaction to afford functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (F-MWNT). Then, conductive linear and hyperbranched polyphenylene sulfides via nucleophilic substitution reaction were grafted to the sites of the F-MWNT. As a result, the conductivities of resultant nanocomposite would be less sacrificed and the solubility of nanocomposite could be further enhanced due to the characteristics of linear and hyperbranched polymer. |
