The thermally robust porous bimetallic (NixPt1-x) alloy mesocrystals with tunable composition and porous carbon framework is prepared by an aerosol-assisted process. The porous NixPt1-x alloy exhibits a high thermal stability of retained crystalline structure and morphology at 550 oC for 6 hours, as revealed by thermal treatment test. As a catalyst for propylene hydrogenation, porous NixPt1-x alloy shows excellent and tunable catalytic activity (high conversion ratio (>80%) and low activation energy (Ea <20 kJ/mol)). In addition, as a catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), the catalytic activity of porous NixPt1-x alloy shows superior electro-catalytic activity (0.853 mA/cm2Pt at 0.9 V) to that of conventional Pt/C (0.115 mA/cm2Pt) because of homogeneous alloying of metal constituents and increased accessibility of reactants to the catalyst, resulted from the unique hierarchical structure of porous NixPt1-x alloy. |
