Heteroaromatic polymers like polybenzoxazole (PBO), polybenzothiazole (PBT), polybenzimidazole (PBI) have been taken much interest as promising polymers for high temperature applications. However, due to their rigid structure and high intermolecular strength, difficulties in the preparation and poor solubility in organic solvents prevent wide spread of these materials. In this study, we followed the two-step polymerization of polybenzoxazole membranes with various diacid monomers to investigate rigidity of the polymers and the resulting structure-property relationship. Gas permeation properties exhibit superior gas selectivities for small gas pairs containing helium and hydrogen as a good candidate of hydrogen separation. |
