Quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants have been widely used as a fabric softener, an anti-static agent and detergent. A cationic surfactant having three hydroxyl groups was synthesized by the condensation reaction of n-dodecylglycidyl ether and 3-(dimethylamino)-1-propylamine followed by the quaternization with dimethyl sulfate. The yield of the product was 96.4%. The structure of product was elucidated by H NMR, FAB-mass and FT-IR. The critical micelle concentration and the surface tension of 1wt% aqueous solution of the product were 4.44*10-5 mol/L and 26 mN/m, repectively. The interfacial tension of the product between water and n-decane was 0.045 mN/m. |
