In this work, in order to obtain enhanced mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fibers-reinforced epoxy matrix composites, the surfaces of carbon fibers were treated by an anodic oxidation with various conditions in ammonium bicarbonate (ABC) aqueous solution. The effects of current densities on the surface structures were observed by FT-IR, SEM, AFM, XPS, and contact angle measurement. The interfacial bond strengths in epoxy matrices were measurement from the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS). As a result, the mechanical properties were increased by oxygen containing functional groups after the anodic oxidation treatments. The mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fibers-reinforced composites can be controlled by a suitable anodic oxidation condition in this composite system. |
