Effects of current density on the interfacial properties of Ni-Co alloy/carbon fiber using IFSS test |

In this work, in order to improve the interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers and epoxy matrix, carbon fibers coated with Ni-Co alloy were prepared by electroplating at room temperature. A nickel plate was used as an anode, and carbon fibers were used as a cathode to be plated. The carbon fibers were plated with different current density in the range of 15 to 30 A/m². The surface characteristics of the carbon fibers were observed by XRD and FE-SEM. The mechanical properties of composites were evaluated by interfacial shear strength (IFSS). As a result, it was found that different content of Ni-Co alloys on the fibers determined interfacial adhesion of fibers-matrix in this system.
