Ionic liquids consisting entirely of cations and anions have been gained significant research interest as candidate electrolytes for various electrochemical applications including energy harvesting/storing devices, electrochromic/electrochemiluminescent displays, sensors, and flexible electronics due to their excellent stability, negligible vapor pressure, good mobility, and high capacitance. To obtain such excellent characteristics mentioned above in solid films, structuring polymer networks that form 3D structures in ionic liquids are beneficial. The resulting solid polymer electrolytes (ion gels) exhibit both outstanding electrical and mechanical properties of the ionic liquids and network polymers, respectively. These ion gels were successfully employed in electrochemical devices including thin-film transistors, light emitting devices and supercapacitors. |
