제목 Analysis of star-shaped polystyrene by IC, UV-Vis spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF MS
초록 Star-shaped polymer which is the simplest type of branched polymer is a useful model to study the physical properties of branched polymers. Star-shaped polymers with a large number of branches can be prepared by the linking reaction of polymer anions with divinylbenzene (DVB). But reaction mechanism is not clearly understood because of difficulty in analyzing various star-shaped polymer species with different number of arms and DVB units. In this work, we synthesized star-shaped polystyrene by reacting low molecular weight polystyryllithim with p-DVB at controlled stoichiometry. The star-shaped polystyrenes collected on the course of the linking reaction were characterized by IC (Interaction Chromatography), Ultraviolet–Visible spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF MS (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption /Ionization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry). From this analysis, we elucidate the mechanism of the linking reaction of polystyryllithium and p-DVB.
