Block copolymer nanostructures under Thermal gradient or Corona discharge |

Two different external fields: Thermal gradient and Corona discharge were employed to block copolymer films and solutions respectively. We have designed and fabricated a thermal gradient device which has maximum temperature gradient (∇T/mm) of 50 and operating temperature range from 5℃ to 250℃. Directional movement of micron thick films of block copolymers under temperature gradient induced orientation of nanostructures of the block copolymers. Corona discharge generated from a sharpened metal tip under strong electric field(~1MV/m) was applied to block copolymer solutions. We have observed that roughness of thin films of the block copolymers significantly depends on the solvents used. Nanostructures of the block copolymers are systematically investigated by controlling concentration of the solutions, electric field and temperature. Transmission electron microscope and optical microscope are utilized to characterize the nanostructures. |
