Coating of a substrate with photocatalyst immense a lot of potentials, especially a surface with different behavior before and after irradiation with a source of light. Here, we synthesized a carbonized polymer dots containing a catechol functional group (CA-PD), followed by conjugation with TiO2 nanoparticles to obtain Vis-light active nanoparticles. CA-PD/TiO2 was then coated onto various substrates, and the water contact angle of the surface was observed. Without irradiation, the contact angle remains high, while becomes lower once being exposed to light such as UV and Visible light. Moreover, the surface shows higher antifouling performance when irradiated, compared to without irradiation due to the photocatalytic effect of CA-PD/TiO2. In the end, this approach could increase the clarity, especially the utilizing of sunlight for photocatalysis applications.
