CoFe2O4 prepared by metal-organic decomposition for higly efficient oxygen evolution reaction of water splitting |

Cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) has attracted attention as a promising electrode material with a high catalytic activity for the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) through electrocatalytic water splitting. In this work, the novel solution route based on metal-organic decomposition (MOD) process is successfully developed for a facile preparation of CoFe2O4. It was thermally calcinated at various temperatures ( 300 - 450 degree C ) in an air-tube furnace. It is significantly found that a drastic cation redistribution in active sites within the spinel structure of 450 degree C - calcinated CoFe2O4 leads to the dramatic enhancement OER activity, including an overpotential of 359 mV at 10 mA/cm2 and a Tafel slope of 53.8 mV/dec in 1 M KOH aqueous solution. Based on this work, a design principle of the MOD solution process developed can be applied to preparation of a greater variety of compositions. |
