In this work, carbon fibers were anodized with ammonium bicarbonate (ABC) as an electrolyte in various current densities. The changes in surface roughness, oxygen functional groups, and surface free energy of the carbon fibers were studied to understand surface energetics of carbon fibers in the relation of filler-matrix adhesion. SEM, FT-IR, EFM, XPS, and contact angle measurement were employed to analyze the carbon fibers after surface anodizing. As a result, the surface free energy of the carbon fiber was changed by oxygen containing functional groups and surface roughness after the anodic oxidation treatments. |
