Polyelectrolyte is a polymer having an ionic group such as sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid. It is also electrically conductive and hydrophilic. Permeation behavior of membranes takes a big role in terms of gas separation and chemical protection. Due to the ionic groups in polyelectrolytes, they may have a high water permeability and the ability to block harmful chemicals. Poly (2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid) (PAMPS) was synthesized, and crosslinked to prevent its dissolution in water using cross-linkers containing dimethacrylate. Vapor permeability was decreased with an increase in a crosslinker length. PAMPS membranes with different cross-linking degrees were also prepared to investigate its effect on vapor permeabilities. Also, electrospun nylon nanofibers were inserted into the membrane and it was clearly seen that the addition of nanofibers decreases vapor permeability. |
