In this study, we report the shape-dependence of fluorescence polarization from colloidal CdSe nanoplatelets (NPLs). We demonstrate the precise control of morphology in CdSe NPLs and study how the shape anisotropy of NPLs correlates with their linearly polarized emission. At the same thickness, CdSe NPLs with higher lateral aspect ratio exhibit higher fluorescence polarization. We analyzed the shape dependence by preparing films of CdSe NPLs dropcast under an electric field and measuring emission and absorption polarizations from the CdSe NPL films. In addition to the experimental observation, we developed a model for the shape-dependent linearly polarized emission from NPLs based on the dielectric confinement effect. Theoretical results are in good accordance with experimental data, which suggests that the anisotropic local field effect is a primary denominator of shape-dependent fluorescence polarization in CdSe NPLs. |
