The crystallization behavior and physical properties of Poly (butylenes terephthalate)(PBT)/urethane modification clay(30BM) nanocomposites were investigated and compared with PBT/alkyl modified clay (30B) nanocomposites. 30B clay showed the most nucleation activity. In case of 30BM nanocomposites, crystallization behavior is similar to that of Homo PBT, indicating that the surface urethane modification for 30BM disturbed PBT matrix contacting with metallic group and reduced the activity of nucleation for metallic group. On the other hand, tensile properties and elongation at break is higher than PBT/30B nanocomposites, resulting that urethane modification of clay increased the physical affinity between the clay and PBT matrix. The improvement in Young’s modulus can be directly attributed to the reinforcement effect due to clay rigidity. |
