In this work, the effect of different thermal latent cationic catalysts containing hexafluoroantimonate (SbF6-), i.e., N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH) and benzyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BDPH) on the impact behaviors of the diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy resin is investigated. The mechanical interfacial properties and impact behaviors of the epoxy resins are studied by the critical stress intensity factor (KIC) and high rate impact test, respectively. The fractured surfaces are observed by using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result, KIC and impact strength of the DGEBA/BDPH system are higher than those of DGEBA/BPH system. This isprobably due to the crosslinking density and structural stability increased by substituted dimethyl groups of BDPH. |
