In this study, we designed and synthesized several D-A (donor-acceptor) type small molecular electron donating materials for OPVs (Organic Photovoltaic Cells), which had ditolylaminothienyl as an electron pushing group, 1,2,5-benzothiadiazole as a conjugated unit, and cyano alkyl acetate or N-alkyl rhodanine as an electron pulling group. The thermal, optical, and electrochemical property of small molecules with variation of acceptor’s electron pulling power were investigated by DSC, UV/Vis spectroscopy and CV, respectively. Unfortunately, our prepared small molecules showed low photovoltaic performance in conventional OPV device using a mixture of prepared small molecule and PCBM as an active layer due to weak light absorption property in visible region from 450 to 550 nm. However, our small molecules showed low FWHM value about 150 nm and we can conclude these molecules can be used as a specific photonic application (ex. organic photodiodes, transparent OPVs, tandem OPVs, and so on) |
