Responsive photonic crystals which change their reflection wavelength or intensity under external stimulus, have stimulated enormous research interest due to their applications in color displays, bio- and chemical sensors, photonic printing and decoration and anti-counterfeit labels. In this study, we have developed electrically tunable colloidal photonic crystals in non-polar. we first improve the dispersibility of iron oxide particles in non-polar solvents through surface modification of hydrophobic chains. the surface reactivity of iron oxide can be greatly improved by coating with a thin layer of silica. The charge control agent was also added to the nanoparticle suspension in the dielectric medium to improve the mobility of the suspended photonic crystals. |
