Hyperbranched macromolecules has become of increasing interest as a potential alternative for the perfectly branched dendrimers that have to be constructed in a usually tedious, stepwise approach. We have synthesized single and multiarm triblock hyperbranched polyglycidols using polyether polyols with different functionalities as initiators by ring opening polymerization using ROK as a catalyst. Since hydroxyl groups are initiator and glycidol is a monomer, the number of hydroxyl group, e.g. several hundred, could be turned by controlling the degree of polymerization. The resulting hydrophilic triblock copolymers have non-toxic nature that can be used where bio-friendly properties are needed. Interesting applications of the resulting polymer are to be presented. |
