In this work, the electrochemical behavior of CF/Al composite was investigated in sulfuric acid solution using SEM, CSLM and EDS. The CF/Al composite contains carbon fibers of about 40 Vol.% which are aligned along the x and y directions. The carbon fibers appeared to be dissolved out during the application of anodic current in 2.25M sulfuric acid solution, leaving a carbon-fiber free zone. The carbon-fiber free zone was found to contain a network of pore and sulfur residuals, and thick anodic oxide films were formed by plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) method in alkaline solution when the carbon-fiber free zone was provided before PEO treatment. |
