Fabrication of silver nanoparticles/polypyrrole nanotubes and their antimicrobial performance |

Silver nanoparticles decorated polypyrrole(PPy) nanotubes(NTs) were synthesized by vapor deposition polymerization (VDP) using AAO membrane as template. Fe/Ag cations were attracted on the AAO template because of electrostatic interactions. The vaporized pyrrole monomer was oxidatively polymerized by simultaneously reducing of Fe/Ag ions. The synthesized silver nanoparticles decorated polypyrrole nanotubes were evaluated as an antimicrobial agent against Gram-negative Escherichia coli, Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus. The amount of decorated silver can be controlled by varying the amount of adsorbed Ag cations on AAO template. In addition, the antibacterial efficacy increased as the amount of loaded silver nanoparticles increased. |
