CFD analysis of cyclone for the optimized collection of spray dried ash-free coal particles |

A three dimensional Euler-Langrangian fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed to simulate the gas particle flow inside cyclone. Nitrogen gas along with spray dried ash-free coal particles, of different sizes, were introduced into the cyclone and ash-free coal particles were collected at the bottom of the cyclone. Inlet duct sizes of the cyclone were altered and their effect on collection efficiency of cyclone were observed. The particle size ranged from 2 μm to 100 μm. It was observed that larger duct size captured a minimum of 17 μm particle but as the duct size was reduced to half, 9 μm particles were also observed to be collected. Furthermore, it was found that the collection efficiency of the cyclone was improved with the decrease in inlet duct size. Hence, the optimum duct size of cyclone was selected based on improved collection efficiency and smaller sized particles' collection capcacity. FLUENT was used to simulate the gas-particle flow inside the cyclone. |
