Morphology Control of Supported Platinum Nanoparticles by Gas Phase Synthesis Method and Its Effect on Cinnamaldehyde Hydrogenation |

We performed gas phase synthesis of morphology-controlled Pt nanoparticles using carbon monoxide as a capping agent. Reduction of Pt/C and Pt/SiO2 under CO/H2 flow formed Pt nanocubes with Pt(100) or cuboctahedra with Pt(111) and Pt(100) depending on preparation temperature, although Pt nanospheres were formed under H2 flow without CO. The effect of Pt particle morphology on cinnamaldehyde hydrogenation was investigated by comparing the hydrogenation performance of Pt nanocubes, cuboctahedrons, and spheres with various particle sizes. The hydrogenation activity and selectivity toward cinnamylalcohol were enhanced in the order of Pt nanocuboctahedra > Pt nanocubes > Pt nanospheres, accordingly, Pt(111) facet > Pt(100) facet > rounded surface in terms of surface structure. |
