Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been paid much attention as a computed tomography contrast agent due to their high X-ray absorption. However, bare AuNPs have limitations because of their low stability in physiological condition and lack of target specificity. For these reasons, AuNPs need appropriate surface modification and various materials are developed. Glycol chitosan (GC) is one of the famous candidates owing to their biocompatibility. Herein, we described simple fabrication method of AuNP probe for detecting ischemic stroke. GC was used as the reducing agent of AuNPs and the coating material for enhanced stability of AuNPs. Thrombosis in brain blood vessel is main reason of ischemic stroke. Number of coagulation factors from cascade of thrombosis, such as factor XIII, fibrinogen and thrombin, can be a target of ischemic stroke imaging agent. GC-reduced AuNPs are decorated by binding peptides or chemicals which can target the coagulation factors for ischemic stroke detection. |
