Preparation and characterization of solid dispersions of Eprosartan using PEG and PVP as hydrophilic carriers |

Eprosartan is one of the poorly soluble drugs for treatment of hypertension. This property leads to problems such as low bioavailability, difficulties of drug formulations and excess drug use. The solid dispersion of drug and hydrophilic polymer is one of the most promising approaches for solubility enhancement. Therefore, in this study, we prepared solid dispersions of eprosartan and hydrophilic polymers (PEG or PVP) to improve bioavailability. Solid dispersions of the drug and the polymer were prepared by a solvent evaporation method. Physical mixtures of the drug and the polymer were also prepared for analytical standard. These samples were characterized by differential scanning calorimeter, x-ray diffraction for observation of changing the crystal structure of drug. Dissolution test was performed using the USP paddle method at 50 rpm using 500 mL of dissolution medium. High-performance liquid chromatography with UV-detector was used for measurement of the drug concentration. |
