Interaction of Polystyrene with Electric Field during Electrospinning |

PS was successfully electrospun at 10-20% in DMF and mixture of DMF and THF at the ratio of 3:1 to 1:3. Unfortunately, beaded fibers were obtained at 10% PS. This suggested that the concentration was too low to let PS molecules entangled. It is found that PS fiber from mixed solvent exhibited alignment. This suggested that the positive charges arising from external voltage reacted with aromatic ring on PS chain, yielding dipole moment of PS chain. As a result, during jet traveling, solvent evaporated then the fibers were molecularly oriented and frozen at the ground collector. The higher the external voltage, the higher interaction between positive charge and aromatic ring, the bigger area of alignment of electrospun was achieved. The interaction of PS will be discussed in detail in terms of the final size of nanofiber. |
