The paramount biological roles of nitric oxide (NO), such as angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune response, neurotransmission, and cardiovascular homeostasis, have encouraged many researchers to develop diverse NO-delivery systems. However, the real application of NO-based drugs to the clinical therapy is still far-off. Thus, one of the important issues in biomedical application of NO is the development of useful NO-delivery system. Herein, we describe a bio-inspired polydopamine (pDA) capsule-based NO delivery platform for echogenic diagnosis, antibacterial application or anticancer therapy. The pDA capsule is developed by the spontaneous oxidative polymerization of a dopamine onto silica (SiO2) particles, followed by removal of the template particles. To develop the pDA-NO capsule, diazeniumdiolates is formed onto the pDA film layers. The possibility of pDA-NO capsule on bioapplication has been under way. |
