In this study, we elucidate a rapid in-situ colorimetric assay for cobalt detection by naked eye system. Interestingly, a yellow to dark orange visual color transition was observed when the Chrysoidine G (CG) aqueous chemosensor was introduced to cobalt within a 3 seconds. Importantly, CG chemosensor has a great selectivity towards cobalt without any interference of other metal ions. Also, it has a great sensitivity as a limit of detection on the order of 2 ppm. Moreover, CG chemosensor was reversible and keep maintaining functionality after treatment of chelating agents. In conclusion, we shows the superior capabilities of CG chemosensor and it has a potential to provide extremely facile handling, high sensitivity and fast response time for applications of on-site detection to real-time cobalt monitoring for the general public. |
