The rod-coil block copolymers have attracted increasing attention in recent years due to an inherent propensity for self-organization. In the present study, we have synthesized rod-coil di- and triblock copolymers of 2-vinylpyridine (2-VP) and n-hexyl isocyanate (HIC) by living anionic polymerization. Three types of amphiphilic coil-rod block copolymers AB (P2VP-b-PHIC), BAB (PHIC-b-P2VP-b-PHIC) and ABA (P2VP-b-PHIC-P2VP) were isolated with quantitative yields and controlled molecular weight. The micellization behaviors of the resulted block copolymers were investigated. It form micelles and reverse micelles in solvent selective for the specific block. In CHCl3 which is solvent selective for the rod block the micelles of ~20 nm sizes has been observed. Whereas, in CH3OH which is solvent selective for the coil block it form hollow spherical micelles of ~200 nm sizes can be useful for the preparation metal nano particles by using the reactivity of 2-VP. |
