A study of fabrication method using fluorinated copolymer as a waveguide material of silica/polymer hybrid devices |

Using polymer as a waveguide of polymer/silica hybrid devices can give more sensitive and easy thermo optic control system because thermo-optic coefficients of polymer are about ten times higher than silica and negative value. In this study, the Fluorinated Polymer(Optopol-HSP-3TM) is prepared from solution polymerization and Mw is about 70,000~80,000. It was made use of waveguide on negative patterned silica substrate, and then dried under vacuum after removed polymer using blade except polymer waveguide filled slit of silica substrate, and post cured in furnance. Finally, it was studied by microscope and SEM for inspection of the surface conditions, and the shape of waveguide is changeable according to drying time and removing polymer. We observed changeable propagation loss depending on temperature variation. |
