Three series of waterborne polyurethane (WBPU)/hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposite dispersions were prepared with various HA and 2,2-dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) content. It was found that the stability of nanocomposite dispersions were highly dependent on HA and DMPA contents. The stable WBPU/HA nanocomposite dispersions were found up to 0.50, 1.00 and 1.50 wt% HA content with respect to 3.00, 4.00 and 5.85 wt% DMPA content, respectively. TEM photographs revealed that the HA mixed homogeneously in the polyurethane matrix up to the optimum content. The tensile strength, Young’s modulus, storage modulus, and glass transition temperature all increased up to the optimum HA content. The maxima tensile strength, Young’s modulus, storage modulus, and glass transition temperature were found with 1.50 wt% HA and 5.89 wt% DMPA content, at which the maximum homogeneous dispersion of HA was observed in WBPU/HA nanocomposite. |
